FireplaceTV 2006: where it started

In 2006 FireplaceTV streamed a fireplace in High Definition, when most people had never seen HD online.

"24 hours a day. High Definition quality. Relax and enjoy." Visitors picked their own quality and player:

• HD: 5 Mbps
• DVD quality: 1.5 Mbps
• www: 800 Kbps
• Players: QuickTime and Windows Media

According to the site, HD required a very fast broadband connection (8 Mbps or faster), an HD screen of 1280 by 720 pixels and a fast Mac or PC with QuickTime 7 or Windows Media Player 9. It was streamed by Streamzilla and Jet-Stream.

The QuickTime and Windows Media files can no longer be streamed, but the website survived as a screenshot. You can watch the same footage in the 2009 version.
